''Published In The UK''

What a month can bring.

I got an email from a journalist the other day. She's with Digital SLR Photography magazine and saw my work at Fine Art America (.com). My prints are listed a $150.00 each, and really, it's not about believing I'll sell any for that price. It's about believing I'm worth at least that. (I gather that if painters can list their pieces for thousands each, then surely I can do the same but for a fraction of the cost.) She followed my Redbubble link & after
seeing my work there, contacted me.

She asked if she could publish me in the magazine with a headshot, 150 word writeup & my shot "Adieu" (seen here). Um..wow?! Naturally, I complied. :) Also, I begin school next month. My major is Business Administration concentrating in Marketing.

I'll soon be extremely busy but that's good. Keeps me on track. Let's see...oh yes! I booked my first wedding. We met at Starbucks and went over the contract, she told me she's excited to have me shoot her wedding after seeing my work. (That....makes me feel good.) The icing on the cake? She wants to fly me out to Cancun for the honeymoon-only for a day or 2, to do the honeymoon shoot! Within one month I've conquered my goals. To become a wedding photographer, to go back to college, and now, I'm being published in 2 magazines this fall. (Real magazine is publishing my "Oops" shot in October; it's based in Australia.) Things aren't so bad.

Oh I have plans...

''What A Day Can Bring''

I'm convinced that I don't need to wait for the good life.
I need to turn the fragments and leftovers of the devastating
aftermath (of any situation) into a good life now.

I'm so tired of being broke.
I've decided to change that.

I saw an ad in the paper, where a woman was advertising
her sevices as a wedding photographer. Hmm...my competition.
So I emailed her with a proposition. 50/50...she's just starting out-
I'm just starting out. Makes the work easier on us both and you
can't go wrong with 2 wedding photographers!

She likes the idea. :) We're meeting for coffee next Sunday.
Could I end up with a business partner??! Oh, and did I mention
that she's an attorney? (bonus!) Contracts are her thing so she's
agreed to handle the contract, negotiations, etc. with the clients
and I'm prepared to take on the burden of editing the majority
of the photos.

Life.....is good.

"Get Up And Type Your Life Away"

"Still going to work Amigo?" Brian asks me.
I'm tossing and turning, studying the shapes and shadows
on the walls. The thunder shakes me every few seconds.
It's 4 am. I'm contemplating wedding photography and whether
I'd rather do senior portraits outdoors or in; how much to charge
for a wedding package starting out. $395.00? $700.00? The chilled
Corona in the bottom of the fridge is starting to scream my name and like a bad Hitchcock film, the shadows call out to me in agreement.

I get up and obey.
Crack the window and the rain comes flooding in onto the table alone
because the cats kicked the magazines down to the floor an hour before. College. I'm thinking if I take a year at the local college, surely that'd be a bit impressive? Right? "Why yes, indeedy, I'm the one for you, for you see, I have this certificate in my hand stating that I know what I'm doing in the business of photography. Yessir..."

So to college it is, because I've decided that here, in this darkened
apartment in the city, Corona in hand amidst the crashing thunder
that I've had an epiphony of sorts and college is my answer.

So I'm told I have bucketfuls of talent. What the heck good is
that without the concrete experience (and obviously banging portfolio) to back it up? I'm wondering if there are any other lonely misguided schmucks out there at 4 am, sipping a Corona while they spill their guts to an automoton nobody, and I'm betting I'm not the first (ever) to type that line. "Hmmm," swigs me. More on that later.
(But probably not.)

Sirens wailing outside..
the only thing missing from this scene is the Bladerunner soundtrack.
I have to scrub Mr. Roy's toilet in 4 & 1/2 hours. I'm hoping that with
a little time, and a spoonful from that bucket of talent, I'll turn my toilet scrubbing schedule into a booming photography business, (specializing in weddings), within the year, and I'm gonna document the whole shabang. (Not that I care even remotely about weddings, but I'm pretty fricking tired of scrubbing toilets.)

Yes I am.

Watch me.
